The Gorizia Board of the Slovenian Cultural and Economic Association (SKGZ) evaluated the newly appointed Provincial Committee of President Enrico Gherghetta. "We regret the fact that the Slovenian presence in the Committee has been reduced by half, and this will give more responsibilities to the current Vice-President and former Councillor Mara Černič, with whom we congratulate," said SKGZ's President for the Gorizia area Livio Semolič, who recalled that "President Gherghetta has again decided not to grant the Portfolio for Language Communities to a Slovenian councillor, but to keep it for himself. In the last mandate this task was assigned to the Vice-President Roberta Demartin, and unfortunately it turned out to not be the best solution given the very limited interest expressed by the councillor to this subject. There is the risk that the same will be repeated in the new mandate given the numerous assignments and responsibilities borne by the Provincial President. Nevertheless, we still hope that with concrete actions and his everyday commitment Enrico Gherghetta will demonstrate that our current concerns are unfounded. Semolič stated that the number of Slovenian representatives in the Provincial Council greatly increased "and we have as many as four elected councillors, but unfortunately Mara Černič had to resign from the position and the Slovenska Skupnost party did not select another candidate in the Sant'Andrea constituency, where we all wanted to elect a Slovenian candidate, because the election of Mara Černic as Vice-President was known in advance."
Semolič concluded his statement by saying that: "The number and quality of the Slovenian councillors in the Provincial Council will guarantee that the new Provincial Government will further implement the multilingualism model, intercultural dialogue and cross-border integration, where we will have to include the area of Monfalcone. We have to invest in these areas, because there is still too much untapped potential, which could stimulate a stronger economic and cultural growth of our territory. In this regard, also the minority organizations will have to commit themselves, as we will have to operate more effectively according to the needs of the area and demonstrate our quality. With our ambitious and innovative approaches we will become an even more useful and valuable counterpart for the new Provincial Government."
